AzureHR is assisting one of our clients to seek a Chief Power Engineer to join their team in Vancouver BC.

Chief Power Engineer is responsible for operation and maintenance of boiler and refrigeration (B&R) and other process equipment by utilizing efficient planning and scheduling and ensuring work is completed according to applicable regulations and standards, leads Power Engineering Task Group in compliance with all company safety programs and policies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to,

  • Maintain safe work practice, perform inspections on equipment, systems, buildings, etc. to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Lead troubleshooting and maintenance of utility systems such as boiler, steam systems, ammonia refrigeration system including blast freezer tunnels, cold storage, refrigeration engine room, compressed air supply, water supply, etc.
  • Anticipate machine failures and assist in equipment maintenance to minimize down time.
  • Supervise the Power Engineering task group, set up and train new recruits.
  • Schedule and assign maintenance jobs to group members.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of the operation and location of all related gauges, measuring tools, and control units.
  • Communicate boiler operational needs with production and maintenance departments.
  • Reinforce safety measures, such as lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Maintain process safety management records for the ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Adhere to all regulations as pertinent to Technical Safe BC and BC environmental legislation.
  • Oversee and direct contractors working with B&R equipment.


  • Must hold and maintain 4th Class Power Engineer certificate or higher. Other trades certificate will be beneficial.
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of industrial Ammonia Refrigeration systems, boilers, and various processing equipment.
  • Must have good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, policies, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employee groups or managers.
  • Must have leadership skills and good organization skills.
  • 3 years or more of supervisory /managerial experience is preferred.
